Tuesday

For Tuesday my observation points were these:

  • Wether or not the session has a central theme
  • the instructional words children seem to understand
  • the nature of children's target language utterances (repetition, responses, creative use, and their proportion during the session)
On Tuesday I observate Debby. This day was an unusual day because as I mentioned Hannah went on vacation. Debby was new for the group but they saw her in other groups so she wasn't completely a stranger to them like me the previous day. This day children started to play with me and they invited me in their game. I gained another friendship with Betti. She is a really cute girl but she only used two words: "yes" and "no".
The techer used simply form of instructions and it seemed to children understood them. Debby used this sentances:

  • Carefully!
  • Don't go under the table.
  • Tank you!
  • Come on!
Children liked to repeat "Carefully" very much. In my opinion they liked the sound of the word. Sometimes when they wanted to say no, they just shake their hands and their head. They usually use only one word. A few member of the group like Boti, Tami used short sentances but the rest of the group repeated our words only.
Their session's theme was animals and nature. As it usual the Hungarian teacher played with them and after that Debby make them to sit in a circle in the carpet. Then they sing the song of Everybody sit down on the floor. After this when everybody took a seat and Debby tought the a ryme:

"Who can find their lap? Tap, tap, tap.
Who can find their hands? Clap, clap, clap.
Who can find their fingers? Wnkle, winkle, winkle.
Who can find their nose? Beep, beep, beep.
Who can find their mouth? Cupp, cupp, cupp."

In every line they showed the mentioned bodyparts. After this session when we played Boti put his finger on my nose all the time and said beep. It was really funny and we laughed a lot. Back to the original theme after the ryme they played a game. When Debby said tree, children had to stand up and when she said grass, they needed to crouches.
What I realized on that they children often would like to talk to me but they rather say nothing because they cannot express themselves but they tried to act out what they wanted to say.
